What is Juniors Rugby?
Juniors rugby covers the U10-U18 age groups, and is an excellent way for children and young people to further develop their rugby skills and participate in an increasingly competitive environment. We are proud of our commitment to maintaining a family friendly and fun experience for all participants, to ensure that you enjoy your rugby experience with us.
Game modifications designed by the Australian Rugby Union from minis level are further extended through each age-grade and gradually develop into full, adult game structures. This allows our players to develop their skills and confidence at a suitable rate and ensures that their participation is both enjoyable and safe.
Our junior teams participate in a competition coordinated by Sydney Junior Rugby Union, which involves clubs from all over Sydney. Teams within this competition are graded, to ensure that games are relatively evenly matched and that players continue to enjoy their participation, and all games are officiated by qualified individuals. This competition runs from March to August each year, with games scheduled on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings.
Wherever possible we host home consecutive games for our junior teams on the same day, to create a spectator event and to encourage a social and participative club culture.
Our junior players are eligible for selection to participate, and further develop their skills, at “Representative Level” (Reps) for Warringah Rugby Club.
U10 - U12 Age Groups
Game modifications that apply to the U10 and U11 age groups are the same, with games played over 20 minute halves on a narrowed full-field pitch, with on-field numbers extended to 12. Squad sizes vary to provide substitution options while ensuring all players are provided with equal opportunity to participate.
At U12 on-field numbers are extended to 15, the playing field becomes full-size and game length increases to 25 minute halves.
U13 – U18 Age Groups
The Australian Rugby Union’s U18 law variations apply from the U13 age group onwards to support players in building their skills, technique and confidence.
You can find full details of the game modifications that apply to all age groups on the Australian Rugby Union web site.
